Information sent on behalf of Cheshire Constabulary

Hello resident,
2 more scams you should be aware of.  Information suppplied by Halton Trading Standards.
TV Licence scam emails on the rise
A Widnes resident has received two different scam TV licence emails on the same day!
There has been an increase in TV licence scams since the Coronavirus lockdown restrictions have been in place. The likely reason for this is that scammers realise residents are relying on their TV’s for entertainment/news more than they were before the lockdown and are trying to take advantage of the situation.

Suspicious email reporting service
The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has launched a suspicious email reporting service in partnership with the City of London Police.
The service makes it easier than ever to flag suspicious emails – including those claiming to offer services related to coronavirus.
Members of the public can send their suspicious emails to and the NCSC’s automated programme will immediately test the validity of the site. Any sites found to be phishing scams will be removed immediately.
As well as taking down malicious sites, the service will support the police by providing live time analysis of reports and identifying new patterns in online offending - helping them stop even more offenders in their tracks.
If you or somebody you know has been caught out by a scam or fraud please contact one of Halton Trading Standards specialist officers, Linda or Sue on 0151 511 8785 or 0151 511 8775, who are already working with people in Halton who have lost thousands of pounds to scams.
